Gerold’s Dream

Gerold’s Dream by Angela Lano on Amazon

This charming little chapter book for ages 7-10 is a diamond in the rough. Angela Lano crafted a folk tale here that is accessible to any reader but is geared toward teaching young children how to care for an aging mother, the importance of praying for our enemies, and the value of true love.

Gerold is a young man from a little village who takes care of his mother. He is waiting for love to appear on his doorstep. A beautiful local girl named Julia catches his eye, but then Wisdom shows up in need of assistance. Or is it the other way around?

It is important to remember that children need tales with a strong moral code. Gerold’s Dream gives them a glimpse into how people wrestle with big decisions, and how love is worth it in the end. At times both funny and deadly serious, this book reminds us to pray for those who wish us ill. It also shows children the evil of lying and the beauty of inner wisdom over an outward appearance.
